Mac Lipstick - Review

Hello sweethearts
As a beauty lover there is one brand you hear of over and over again, Mac Cosmetics! I'd never really tried Mac however just before Christmas I became desperate to experience some Mac products. My favourite beauty products are eyeshadows and lipstick, so I knew exactly what product I wanted to test. I'd also been wanting a really dark red/plum lipstick, however I couldn't seem to find the right colour in any of the high street brands; when I heard Mac had the darkest red going, I had to try it!
After watching tutorial after tutorial and reading blog posts I had my heart set on Sin by Mac, it's a matte lipstick, exactly what I prefer as normally I find it a lot more lasting and better coverage for my lips than sticky lip gloss. It was at the top of my Christmas list and I even went to Manchester especially to have a browse round the Mac store.

Before I get to the actual product review itself I'll start with the packaging, even though I'm sure you all know what Mac lipsticks look like. I really really like the bullet shape, I find it really classy and as  it's recognisable you feel you have something special and fabulous in your handbag, in a way I feel Mac lipsticks are self esteem you can buy.  However, honestly this is the only aspect of the product I actually liked.
I actually feel like a really crappy beauty blogger for saying this, but it's the worst lipstick I have ever tried! Now I own up, I didn't use lip primer, though I never use lip primer unless I have time to dilly dally about and most days I don't. This could be the reason but frankly if it doesn't stay on without, there's no point, it should be sold with it if that's the case!

As I applied this lipstick it was just coming off straight away, it was going into small balls on my lips and bleeding away. I tried again and again to put more on however it was just removing what I did have on, it wouldn't go into the corners of my mouth or the inside of my lips and just as I thought it was going slightly better it would wipe off and I had to start again. In the end I ended up removing it completely and putting a completely different lipstick on.
As I wanted to do a fair review, I thought maybe it could just be me and there could have been something up with my lips, as sometimes I do find lipsticks awkward on my lips; I got my Mum to try it too, the exact same thing happened, it ran into her lips and kept rubbing off as she applied more. She said it felt lovely and smooth however it was so smooth it slipped off her lips.

We both loved the gorgeous colour and I adored the presentation of the product itself; if it had been more reliable I would have loved to have bought lots of the different colours as they have such a wide range in their collection, however unfortunately this has put me completely off trying any of their other lip products and I'm not sure if I'd purchase anything else from them either.

I'm sorry for such a negative review however if you
have any thoughts of Mac, good or bad,
please let me know in the comments, I'd love to hear them!

  2. I own about 6 Mac lipsticks (yeah, I think I've got a problem...) and they're all matte and I've never experienced this! So weird, I wonder if that shade has a dodgy formula or something? My favourite ones are the retro matte as they're the thickest, waxiest textured and they seem to stay on me pretty well. I have never used a lip primer in my life either - if I'm completely honest I didn't even know that was a thing? Lol. Honestly can't think of a reason!

Rubbish that you had such a crappy experience with Mac, but I think it's great that you've been honest about it and not just jumped on the brand hype-bandwagon. I'd send it back and ask for my money back!
Great review, I really enjoyed reading (even if I still love Mac I'm sorry please like me!)

    1. Thank you for your comment lovely! Ah, knowing me it could just be a dodgy formula, it was a shame though.
