My Vintage Bedroom

Hi lovelies!
Hope you're having a Friday as good as it claims to be in the name! (It's Good Friday in case you're thinking 'what's she talking about?')

As I said in my What Should Be In My Makeup Bag last year I discovered my love for all things vintage and decided I wanted to add a touch of the 1940's glamour into my everyday life from beauty to furniture! My taste of vintage is retro style made in the modern world!

If you're anything like me you won't know how to find items or where to shop. Today I'm going to be showing you how to add a classic 40's twist to a modern day bedroom and what everyday shops to go to for affordable prices!

This room is actually my walk in wardrobe/spare room but it's so cute and pretty I decided to show you the few ways I made it more retro.
First of all I've got one wall decorated in black and silver wallpaper, this was from B&Q and was only £9.99 I paired it with a modern ratio of 1 wallpaper wall and 3 bare white. What I love about the layout is you can use really dark or dramatic wallpaper without overpowering the whole room and making the room too dull. Of course you can get lots more of lovely brighter wallpapers that will still apply to this era so don't worry if black and white isn't to your taste!
Next we've got my bedding, this is actually from Asda's George, it's simply the classic pin up girl, I have to mention I got this bedding a few months ago and it may not be in stock but if you hunt round you're sure to find similar! As the bed is a single this bedding was £10 and it's absolutely gorgeous! This is really bright and feminine which was the fashion of the 1940/50's.
My next item is a mannequin, I love these! I'm a little obsessed and have three, (I swear they don't come to life and turn to Kim Cattrall at night!). I got all three from Home Base and they were around the price of £20-£30, you could get them a little cheaper but that's just what I paid for them. The one in this photo is made from a black velvet and feels like heaven to touch! The aspect I love about them is they're all different materials from satin to metal wiring but they're all stunning! The fact they're perfect for getting creases out of my clothes is just a bonus!
I absolutely love this lamp, I think it's really quirky and adds a little personality to the room, I got it from my local market for £20 but I'm sure if you hunt round you could find one similar. I think even if you had a plain room it would add a little class and a vintage feel to it! Another feature I adore about this is the material it's made from which is satin embroidered with an antique braided trim, perfect for the 40's and 50's!
I feel a real effective way to get the vintage feel is getting a mirror that fits into your theme. As my room is black and white I got a mirror to go with it just to make it pop and reflect light to make my room brighter! This is a stylish and practical way  to redirect light in an otherwise quite dark room. I got this mirror from Dunelm for £25 however you can pick a nice mirror up from the likes of Sainsburys for a even lower price.

My next retro item is so quick and easy you probably don't have to even leave your house! It's a teddy with pearls..that's it! This teddy is my Mums which she has had since she was a little girl and I found my necklace from my jewellery box! However, as I'm telling you were you could find these things you could get a teddy from a card shop from £2-£6 and you could get a pearl necklace from Accesserize for £6.
Okay, this is a cheat..but it's also the only original vintage item on my list, this is my Nans perfume bottle that belonged to her Mum! (I wonder if she'll notice it's gone and is now sitting pretty on my table?) The thing I love about this is the vintage squeeze pump. As I never met my great grandmother I wouldn't know where she got it from however I'm sure if you look online you'll find something similar!
One of my favourites on this list is my birdcage I got from a Wholesale shop called Inspirations, it's stunning! I've been wanting one for so long and I finally got mine a few days ago! This is my most expensive purchase at £69 but they do have smaller ones from £5 upwards! If you like the birdcage design your can even get a bedside lamp similar to this. Also it doesn't have to be plain, you could add lights or pop a photograph inside to give it a bit more personality!

I got this pearl photo frame the other day (which explains why there's no photo in it yet!) from, again, Inspirations, it was £4.99 but you can get them from most shops around that price. I feel it's a good way to add a bit of glitz to your room.  You can get lots of retro style photo frames from your everyday shops, I feel it enhances your photo and can be an easy way to add a vintage feel. There's nothing more left to say as a photo speaks a thousand words!

Finally there's my drawer, this is just a little tip to add a bit of funk. With a spare piece of wallpaper (or you could cut the amount you need) you first of all apply some PVC glue, you can get this in Poundland or any craft shop, then you place the piece of wallpaper on to your drawer then apply another layer of glue and just let it dry! If you wish you could change your handle to something fancier, you can find handles at the likes of B&Q from £3.

Hope you enjoyed this little rundown on vintage bedrooms
and helped you get inspired!
